“Départements” are administrative sub-regions in France, providing services to residents ranging from childcare and education to housing assistance, social care, and cultural events.
At one “département” in southern France, around 8,000 employees are responsible for the smooth operation of citizen services, and use IT infrastructure such as HR and finance systems to help them with this work. To reduce repetitive manual tasks for employees, the IT team automates as many processes as possible. However, its automated batch processes – with workflows built from a selection of components across more than 50 different applications – were complex and difficult to manage.
