Reliability, Flexibility and Ease-of-Use
Key requirements for a centralized file transfer solution
The central information system at Bolloré Group manages human resources, payroll, accounting and cash flow for the many subsidiaries located in France. When the central division modified its human resource management system, a requirement arose for a secure file transfer solution. Sylvain Soldevila, System, Network and Applications Architect at Bolloré Holding IT, was in charge of finding a solution that would meet the needs of the central holding and the HR Managers in the subsidiaries. “I carried out a market study and almost immediately identified Axway SecureTransport as the ideal solution. We did a proof-of-concept with Axway to fully test the product, and then we demonstrated it to the managers at our principal subsidiaries in France. It was important to get buy-in from our subsidiaries to use the solution. All the stakeholders were entirely satisfied with SecureTransport, so we quickly deployed the solution centrally,” explained Soldevila.
SecureTransport offers ease-of-deployment and ease-of-use. These features, along with the security and reliability of the solution, were of high importance to central IT at Bolloré Holding. Bolloré required a solution that would be easy to administer, and would not require new resources for the management of file transfers. “You don’t have to be an engineer to use SecureTransport, yet you know you can rely on the product to get the job done. It’s really a polished off-the-shelf product that automates and controls the file transfers it manages. Since SecureTransport is so reliable, you don’t need to have someone monitoring file transfers. Any incidents are automatically reported and managed in real-time by the solution,” said Soldevila.

Sensitive Information Exchanged
Using secure Internet file transfer standards
Bolloré is using Axway SecureTransport today to send and receive payroll for thousands of employees located within the different Bolloré entities across France. “Payroll is a sensitive subject, which requires fail proof security, so we needed a solution providing encryption capabilities and robust transfer protocols. With SecureTransport, I’m confident that our files will not be pirated or corrupted as they are transferred over the network. SecureTransport guarantees data integrity to delivery end points. If there is an incident on the network, SecureTransport restarts or resubmits the data automatically and with no manual intervention. SecureTransport really saves us a lot of time,” said Soldevila.
“We provided external financial management partners with SecureTransport’s Rich Internet Client. This is the ideal solution to exchange files securely over the Internet with companies that are not on our private network. Once again, there is no need to be an engineer or a programmer to use SecureTransport.”

Axway and Bolloré
A long term partnership
The Bolloré Group has been using Axway for many years — including Axway Transfer CFT, Axway Integrator, Axway Interchange and Axway Sentinel. Once the company evaluated SecureTransport, it was confident to roll out the solution based on its previous experience with Axway. “We’ve been using SecureTransport for just over one year, and we have not had a single adverse incident,” said Soldevila.
Bolloré is looking at expanding the use of SecureTransport in several areas. As Bolloré acquires new companies, it will be easy to quickly integrate financial data using SecureTransport. It is expected that a substantial number of new employees will join the company through acquisitions and new hires in France, which will add to the number of payroll file transfers already in place between the central group and its subsidiaries. Finally, Bolloré is considering the use of SecureTransport for one of its major new projects. “We also like SecureTransport for the secure protocols it offers bundled into one product, and we see a lot of potential to use it with more external partners. SecureTransport seems to be well adapted to all of our file transfer needs. It is a modern and efficient solution. It’s true that Axway is recognized for its quality solutions, and that really makes a difference to our company,” concluded Soldevila.
