Cyclone Commerce ePedigree Solution Combats the Growing Problem of Counterfeit Drugs
New Solution Helps Pharmaceutical Industry Protect Brand Revenue and Increase Consumer Safety
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. - Cyclone Commerce today announced the immediate availability of Cyclone ePedigree™, a solution that enables the pharmaceutical industry to have real-time visibility throughout its entire supply chain. Drug industry analysts estimate that nearly 10 percent of drugs worldwide are counterfeit and the World Health Organization estimates that $32 billion in legitimate corporate sales are lost each year due to the sale of counterfeit drugs. By guaranteeing the authenticity of origin and clearly demonstrating possession of all pharmaceutical drugs as they move through the supply chain, pharmaceutical companies are able to combat the growing problem of counterfeit drugs.
Cyclone ePedigree automates current paper-based processes intended to prevent counterfeiting and safeguard the drug supply. These processes are mandated by various state laws and recommended by the U.S. federal government. This new solution enables companies to link physical inventory movements with B2B transactions such as purchase orders, ship notices and invoices.
"Counterfeit drugs represent a substantial and growing risk to patient safety and corporate profits. Since The Harvard Drug Group, LLC provides value to the healthcare supply chain as both a primary manufacturer of pharmaceuticals and as a general distributor we believe it is incumbent on us to take a leadership position in drug pedigree tracking," said Jay Levine, president and COO, The Harvard Drug Group, LLC. "This new ePedigree solution will allow us to track each drug's chain of ownership, from the pharmacy back to the manufacturer, allowing us to reduce counterfeiting and increase patient safety."
Cyclone is developing relationships with integrated supply chain solution companies like Manhattan Associates in order to provide even broader support for safety-based supply chain initiatives. "The ePedigree solution is a natural outgrowth of our Integrated Logistics Solutions (ILS) that ensure a secure and optimized supply chain," said Jeff Cashman, vice president of business development, alliances and strategy for Manhattan Associates. "We are pleased to be working with Cyclone Commerce with our Life Science and RFID solutions that will bring new levels of patient safety to the pharmaceutical supply chain by helping to prevent counterfeiting."
"Cyclone ePedigree delivers simple compliance that helps combat the dangers of counterfeit drugs, including a risk to patient safety, reduced consumer confidence, and eroding pharmaceutical brand trust and revenue," said Ron Gabrisko, vice president of healthcare & life sciences for Cyclone Commerce. "Cyclone ePedigree helps pharmaceutical wholesalers meet regulatory obligations while maintaining existing order processing flows. Our customers want to leverage their investment in eCommerce automation while continuously aligning with the evolving Electronic Product Code (EPC) and RFID standards."
Cyclone ePedigree provides the integrity, authenticity, and archiving required in order to comply with the various laws and regulations. It also delivers:
- Complete visibility into the custodial history of a particular drug or drug lot
- Comprehensive reporting and alerting to help companies better manage exceptions and regulatory compliance
- 21 CFR Part 11 compliance for electronic records and digital signatures
Cyclone ePedigree is built on the reliable and market-tested platforms used by many manufacturers and wholesalers to meet regulatory reporting requirements such as the DEA's Controlled Substance Ordering System and the FDA's Adverse Event Reporting System.
